In 2007, Joan Ventosa, José Luis Martín and Manuel López Poy set up the Bad Music Blues association in order to take on communication and outreach projects around this genre. The scheme had its origin in the coming together of these three characters, dedicated to cultural management and music journalism, in launching a documentary on the history of the blues in Barcelona, which in turn gave rise to an informative, musical and thoroughly absurd programme on Ràdio L’Hospitalet within the framework of José Luis’s Bad Music programme, which ran for six years and was devoted especially to Spanish bands. The feverish activity of these three muddled minds and their henchmen went on producing a whole series of projects, in a kind of bluesy snowball: the creation of the Anuario del Blues, the publication of special themed fanzines, the making of the documentaries Barna Blues and Hondarribia Crossroads I and II, thousands of hours of recordings of concerts and festivals (including several editions of the European Blues Challenge), hundreds of interviews with the protagonists of the genre from every era, the ferment of the Cicle de Blues & Boogie de L’Hospitalet and the Primavera in Black, as well as other adventures as important as they are unconfessable. BMB could perfectly well be the initials of Barcelona, Memory and Blues.
