Hooked on the electric guitar since childhood, Doctor Mas came to the blues through the umbilical cord of one of his favourite songs, “Red House” by Jimi Hendrix, one of the first musicians he took as a reference. He formed his first rock group at the age of only eighteen, in the early seventies, and since then he has never stopped being thrilled every time he steps onto a stage, always sporting a kindly, wry smile, displaying his virtuosity as he gets drunk on the blues with his customary solos played with the guitar behind his back, as old Charlie Patton used to do and as hundreds of bluesmen of every era have imitated. An affable man, courteous to the extreme, this veteran has known how to earn the respect and affection of colleagues from the new generations and also of the blues audience, a magical music that holds him completely captive and in which he singles out freedom, emotion and tradition, always present. After more than four decades, the devil’s music has given him the chance to live great experiences, to meet and play with great musicians and even better people who, by his own confession: “have brought me happiness and given meaning to my life”.
