Session held in Barcelona on: 07/03/2022
Aïda Casanovas
Paquito Blues Band · Chef Dave and the Cooks
Although she started playing at fourteen, by her own admission she came to the blues by chance, when at thirty she began frequenting the jams in Barcelona, where she had returned after a long stay in London pursuing her professional side as a biologist: “I met a group of blues-loving people and we put a band together. For me it was quite a challenge because I had never played ‘shuffle’ and I held it in great respect. At that time I was studying the drums a great deal, so I got my act together in this genre and it captivated me”. From 2016 she began taking an active part in the local circuit as a member of different bands, while also collaborating with groups of other styles, such as indie pop or rock. But it is in the blues that she has found an environment of her own and where she has best developed her music, which has allowed her to widen her personal circle and share her artistic passion: “The best thing the blues has given me is the freedom to be able to get up on a stage and play and improvise with other musicians without needing to know them, sharing some very beautiful moments”.
