Albert Guitart
Fas Tard · Sweet Little & Midnight Laters · Harmònica Zumel Blues Band
He began going up on stage in 1976 in progressive rock groups, in the years of the Rock Laietà, and came to perform in seven groups at the same time. He arrived at the music of African-American roots at the end of the eighties, at the hands of Big Mama Montse, who taught him the language of the blues, and of Leo Carreras, with whom he created Fas Tard, one of the pioneering bands of the Barcelona scene. He was part of the city’s pioneering jams, where he was drawn to the communion between musicians: “I liked the improvisational element that made exchange with other musicians so easy.” Years later he has continued to work with improvised music, practising free, non-idiomatic improvisation and organising series such as the Impronits or the Encontres en l’Espai-Temps, under the umbrella of “Gràcia Territori Sonor”. A life dedicated to music, in the latest stage more focused on the technical and production side, in which the blues has filled him with life: “I have met a great many wonderful artists and taken part in memorable concerts. Those moments, and the bonds you end up forming, enrich you both professionally and personally.”
