Session held in Barcelona on: 16/01/2025
Arnau Demons
He is one of the latest additions to the Barcelona scene, coming from the Escola de Blues de Barcelona, where he enrolled before the minimum age thanks to his father’s wishes: his father passed on to him, as he did to his sister, the singer Carla Sunday, a passion for the genre. His first teacher and influence was the pianist David Giorcelli, who, in his own words, helped him to achieve a very personal style. In 2021 he began to travel through the devil’s music together with his sister and the drummer Héctor Infieles, with whom he set up the band The Heeks to play covers of blues classics, a music whose vibrations and energy are what chiefly attract him and, by his own admission, “its musically crazy nights”. His references span a wide range of African-American music, from Etta James to Otis Spann, by way of Ruth Brown, Ray Charles or Freddie King, which have hooked him on a genre that has opened up for him a new horizon and a new personal environment: “It has allowed me to meet and learn from very talented and slightly surreal people”.
