When he was four years old, his father came home with a record player and records by Louis Armstrong, Sidney Bechet, Kid Ory, Lionel Hampton and Ray Charles. He connected with jazz instinctively and it dragged him on to the blues. And when he decided to become a musician, he chose to play this genre because, by his own definition, it is the one that best fits his personality. He was part of the historic parish of La Cova del Drac, where the Barcelona blues of the eighties germinated, and by the end of the decade he had become an indispensable professional on the local and national scene. With a kindly, permanent smile beneath the eternal moustache, for more than four decades he has moved, seduced, through the authenticity of the blues that comes from the soul and that, for him, has the power of being a music both simple and complex at once, primitive and subtle, which he confesses has given him the best experiences: travelling to places he might never otherwise have gone, meeting people and sharing this music with other musicians and with the audience, and above all “learning every day, for that is what makes music so thrilling”. Perhaps the best definition of what a master is.
