He came into the world in the days when the Stones released “Miss You” and his father was the bassist of the Yaks, a pioneering rock group from Cerdanyola del Vallès, the setting of one of the oldest blues festivals in the country, so he had little choice but to embrace American music from childhood, from the blues to rock’n’roll, taking in country and rhythm&blues. At fourteen he began to play the guitar as a self-taught musician and to soak himself in the blues in the venues of his home town. In 2005 he began to make his way on the stages of those same establishments, first playing in various local projects, and later with his own band, Carlos Navarrete Trio, playing in several groups on the Barcelona blues scene or accompanying international musicians visiting the city, such as Kirk Fletcher. He tours the festivals of the country, fulfilling the dream he had as a young lad, when he was captivated and thought that perhaps one day he too might do what he heard on the records of Albert Collins, Jeff Healey or Stevie Ray Vaughan, and which today fills him and sets him free: “Going up on stage gives me freedom and is another way of communicating in a deeper way. The blues is my emotional medicine.”
