Carlos Pérez
Paquito Groove Band · The Big Jamboree · Barcelona Big Blues Band · The Belmontes
After buying his first instrument in his teens and taking his first steps with local bands, in the early nineties he moved to London and made his way into the music scene. On his return he played with bands of various styles, until he joined paths with his brother, Big Dani Pérez, and from then on he became part of the most outstanding groups on the Barcelona scene of blues, rhythm&blues, soul and funk. He has shared a stage with the most relevant figures of the blues scene, a genre whose capacity for expression he admires: “It is a language, a way of expressing yourself, even a way of being. You have to know it, defend it and feel it. Pain, sadness and joy through music, through improvisation, make every song or moment unique and special.” This excellent bassist champions the influence of the classics of African-American roots music and the depth of interaction on stage: “When there is a moment of connection with the band, however small, it is brutal, unique, like a drug, I don’t know, it can’t be explained. What is clear is that the audience notices it and that makes it even more magical.”
