Dani Roto
Dani Roto & the SickRoto Blues BigBand Orquesta · Dani Roto & the Hobos
Dani’s journey towards the blues began with a few bastard great-great-grandchildren called punks who climbed aboard the locomotive of musical curiosity, travelling backwards, until they reached the rock’n’roll of the fifties and fell into the claws of the blues: “I have played many styles, but once I started playing the blues, I no longer wanted to do anything else”. And so he plunged into it five years ago to follow a path of rebellion and to attempt the difficult trade of the surviving musician, alternating between the street, the metro and the venues in order to perform his blues, following a philosophy that combines tradition with caustic humour: “It has given me a life I can bear. I am now poorer than ever, but also more satisfied than ever. The blues saved my life, but it ruined me”. He conceives of music as a very special form of expression, and above all of resistance, and he puts his faith in his own songs in Spanish, but performed in a highly personal way. A good connoisseur of the classics but also of the closest contemporary musicians, he is a devotee of the earliest rural blues and of the essential formula: “One guitar, one voice and a great deal to say”.
