This passionate militant of the blues arrived at the genre through a capricious pirouette of financial capitalism, when an album from the American Blues Folk Festival fell into his hands, a gift that a banking institution gave his family for opening a savings account. When the sound of Junior Wells’s harmonica emerged from the grooves of the record, performing two songs by Sonny Boy Williamson II, his destiny was marked for ever. Shortly afterwards he bought his first harmonica and he is still here: blowing as if his life depended on it. Also known as Chef Dave, in a nod to his renowned culinary skill, he is an expert and devoted harmonica player who possesses a great knowledge of the genre, and this places him on the side of the exquisite purists. A cultured individual, he sets aside his fine sarcasm and defines the blues as “a humble music, like its origins, but capable of expressing the whole depth of the human being”. Involved to the utmost in the Barcelona blues scene and in the creation of the Societat de Blues de Barcelona, of which he is a founding member, he states categorically that the blues has saved his life.
