Session held in Barcelona on: 11/03/2021
Emma Fernández
This talented and energetic pianist fell into the cauldron of African American rhythms in a family home where roots music was played, mainly swing and jazz. And one thing led to another: “The blues arrived as a logical consequence, alongside rhythm&blues and rock’n’roll”. And yes, it was love at first sight: “Almost immediately I knew that this music would stay with me as a reference for the rest of my life”. Before she was eighteen she was already playing with dance orchestras, and since then she has had a solid career in which she has collaborated with the best musicians, yet always with a personal stamp that has made her one of the most important pianists on the Barcelona scene, which is no small thing, taking into account the level to be found in the city. On stage she is a true showman, with an overwhelming live presence that connects directly with the essence of rock’n’roll and of the blues, a music whose spirit she admires: “It is a music that comes from the soul and is at the same time universal. It is a pillar of American roots music and it is the style I enjoy most”.
