Eric Ibañes

Bella Vista (Argentina), 1992

Drums · Guitar

The Shepards · Two Empty Bottles · Las Balas Perdidas · Barko Waltz

He began playing the guitar at twelve, and he grew up listening to rock’n’roll, until he decided to pull at the thread and reached the very marrow: “The blues is the root of all of it, and I discovered that the blues had more strength and depth, as a form of expression, than other genres of music.” After the usual beginnings with groups of friends playing in bars and venues around the city, he decided to focus more on mastering the guitar and he put together his own artistic project, which led him to spend time in Detroit and to take part in a couple of line-ups. He immersed himself in the blues, a genre whose performance, for this versatile multi-instrumentalist, goes beyond the merely musical: “Playing blues is exploring a complex world of culture and history, and also exploring yourself.” He further confesses that the practice of this style has allowed him greater freedom and interpretative capacity: “The freedom to improvise and to break the rules. An appreciation for control and for the care of my musical sensitivities, tempos and rhythms.”
