Frank Barnes
Barnes & Güell · Feeling the Blues
Endowed with a special sensitivity for the world of show business, his great dream was always to step onto a stage, and he began to travel that road from the ground up: singing in the metro at the age of just eighteen. In his professional career he has known how to let himself be mentored by figures of the Barcelona scene such as Big Mama Montse, Ster Wax, David Giorcelli or Agustí Mas. His creative ambition and his capacity for hard work have allowed him to make his way in the Barcelona music scene, moving with ease among the most varied genres, but always with the blues in his sights: “Loving the blues has meant understanding the genres descended from it such as rock or pop, and I would even go so far as to say that I have learned to enjoy Spanish folk music, which has African roots too”. He declares himself a staunch fan of Amy Winehouse, who opened African-American music to him, but his list of favourite musicians is not only endless but keeps on growing with such unquestionable names as Ella Fitzgerald, Shirley Bassey, Sinatra, Judy Garland, Joe Williams, Billie Holiday or Jay McShann, to name but a few. He confesses that what seduces him about the blues is its sound and its capacity to express every kind of feeling and situation.
