Javier 'Wolfi' Alonso
The Wakan Blues Band · Woolfi and the Little Band · Monterrey Band
Although he took his first musical steps in the field of classical music, he grew up in a family environment where music was the protagonist, without limiting labels, though the improvisation of jazz and the blues predominated. He created his first blues band in 2006 and four years later began his professional career as a licensed musician on the Barcelona metro. What seduced him and encouraged him to play the blues was its capacity to express emotional states: “I discovered the feeling of the blues, which expresses joy starting from sorrow, as happens with flamenco.” A good part of his influences came from British and American hard rock, with bands such as Deep Purple, Rolling Stones or Led Zeppelin, but among his favourite performers there is a wide range of tones: “From the warmest and gentlest, such as B.B. King or Eric Clapton, to more temperamental ones such as Buddy Guy or Stevie Ray Vaughan.” He confesses himself a lover of a genre whose creative freedom he deeply values: “What the blues has given me most, and still gives me, is the freedom to express myself musically through improvisation.”
