He came across the blues when he was twenty and was part of a trio playing classic rock’n’roll covers that gradually drifted towards rhythm&blues as new members joined the band. By his own admission, it was a learning process that brought him to understand the genre, its message, the context in which it was born and the reason behind its lyrics. In short, his approach to “a real music, which draws on the experiences of the oppressed working class of the time”. In 2020 he embarked on a personal project with 126th Jazz Avenue, a tribute to the women of jazz. Although his personal weakness is jazz, he is an artist open to every musical genre, because he believes that bringing styles together enriches him as a musician and as a person. Perhaps that is why his direct influences include artists as different as Bessie Smith, Sonny Boy Williamson, Tower of Power, Chet Baker, the Dap Kings or Lucille Bogan, among others. An honest and sincere musician, he feels privileged to be able to play with the professionals around him and declares without fuss that “The blues is life. The rest matters little”.
