He began playing the harmonica at the age of twelve, while blues and jazz records played at home, among them one by Muddy Waters that particularly caught his ear. In the mid-nineties he began playing with groups of friends in any venue that would have them. Starting out from Chicago blues, he let himself be seduced by the rawness and visceral quality of the Chess Records musicians, eventually reaching far broader registers: “From the most primitive blues, drawn to a blend of folk and country that I found rhythmically more complex, to the more modern blues of Johnny Winter or Stevie Ray Vaughan, who had a more rocking vibe that seduced me for its force, its sound.” Having become a virtuoso of the chromatic harmonica, at the end of the first decade of the twenty-first century he began a new phase as a double bassist that has made him an indispensable member of numerous bands. An artist of jovial character and an intelligent sense of humour, he is grateful to his profession as a musician for a different relationship with life: “A lot of laughter with my colleagues, meeting all kinds of people, many hours in the car, many… ha, ha. And perhaps what I am most grateful for is having been able to be in different villages, cities and countries that I certainly would not have been able to visit with another kind of job.”
