Her hurricane-like stage voluptuousness and her powerful voice have made her one of the leading female singers on our African-American music scene. Born in Mozambique and raised in Barcelona, she spent a few years in the United States, where she began singing as an amateur, before returning in 2008 to embark on a professional career, which came about two years later when she answered an advertisement in a magazine: “Band seeks singer, rnb/blues/soul style, sixties”. The Excitements projected her, and she has since gone on to lead a project of her own. Her relationship with music is as passionate as it is energetic: “The blues is a genre that physically produces a fire in your chest, and even if you want to get rid of it, it won’t let you. It is a good emotional exercise in crying without tears that expresses human fragility in a very simple way. And it also gives strength and courage to the fragile heart.” A lover from an early age of the soul and rhythm & blues she heard in her family circle, she confesses herself seduced by the duality of the blues: “It is sad and joyful at the same time. As if it never took itself too seriously. It is the best company for crying and at the same time for standing up for yourself.”
