Larry Smith

The son of American military personnel stationed in Great Britain, Laurie Finlay-Smith discovered the blues through the records kept in his home, and after a musical journey through pop, rock and heavy metal he returned to British blues at the hands of artists such as Peter Green and Rory Gallagher, closing the circle and rediscovering his own roots. He first stepped onto a stage at thirteen to perform an absolute classic, “House of the Rising Sun”. After three decades playing all over the world and taking part in various bands and projects of different styles, from the most guitar-driven blues rock to the most traditional side of the genre, such as Piedmont or Mississippi country blues, in 2005 he settled in Barcelona, joining the local scene, playing in various bands, creating projects of his own and becoming a familiar figure at the jam sessions held in the city, where he is loved and respected for his affable, collaborative nature. With references as diverse as Johnny Winter, ZZ Top, Willie Dixon or the Mississippi Sheiks, he confesses himself seduced by the variety of possibilities of a genre that has filled his life with music and with friends from all over the world.
