Marc Ferrer
The Big Jamboree · The Big 3 · The Velvet Candles · Marc Ferrer Trio
Two compilation records by Ray Charles and B.B. King that were lying around at home were to blame for an early taste for African-American roots music. He began playing the piano at five and by sixteen he was already studying jazz and playing in combos into which a blues number would now and then slip. He followed in the wake of pioneers such as Harmònica Zúmel, Amadeu Casas, August Tharrats and Big Mama, and in 1996 he joined The Big Jamboree, where he remains to this day. His piano has accompanied artists such as Big Dani Pérez, Agustí Burriel, Laia Porta, Ricard Gili and Víctor Puertas, among others, and international figures such as Dale Hawkins or Barrence Whitfield. A regular at Spanish and European festivals, he has left a pedagogical mark through his classes at the Escola de Blues de Barcelona, passing on to his pupils, besides musical mastery, his love for a style he regards as much more than a musical genre: “It is history, tradition and feeling in their purest state. I am fascinated by everything that can be expressed by playing the blues.”
