Sweet Marta

Girona, 1983

Harmonica · Vocals

Johnny Big Stone & Sweet Marta · Sweet Marta & the Blues Shakers · Womblues · Índigo Blues

She arrived in Barcelona at the age of twenty-two with the firm determination to become a blues harmonica player, something she achieved through dedication, hard work and talent, becoming the only female exponent of the instrument in this country, as well as a member of the only band made up exclusively of women, Índigo Blues. To put it graphically, in very few years she went from being part of the regular audience at the Honky Tonk to shining from its stage. Her relationship with the blues was a resounding love at first sight that turned this music into the soundtrack of her life. She began performing professionally in 2014, when she met the guitarist Johnny Big Stone, with whom she created Sweet Marta & The Blues Workers (who later became Blues Shakers) and recorded her first album. A virtuoso of the harmonica, with a voice laden with energy and sensitivity at the same time, she has become a regular figure at Spanish festivals and is beginning to tread the European stages with confidence, with a repertoire that combines, with total assurance, the most primitive rural blues with the electrified blues of Chicago or rhythm&blues.
