Maurici Morera

Sabadell, 1968

Harmonica · Vocals

Hot Blues · The Midnight Rockets

In his case, the initial inspiration came from the music of John Mayall, who opened up the harmonica and the blues to him. He taught himself to play by listening to records and began playing in public in 1992, at the age of twenty-four. Although he does not consider himself a professional because he does not devote himself exclusively to music, he is an indelible part of the history of Barcelona blues, forming part of the wave of pioneers who drove African-American music forward in the city in the early nineties. Taking the absolute classics of the genre as his references, and with a very personal style and stamp, for almost three decades he kept alive one of the most genuine projects on our scene, The Midnight Rockets, the band he created together with Xavier Curto in the mid-nineties. Over the years he has always maintained a discreet but uncompromising attitude: “The blues is a pure feeling if you discover it, and you realise that it is the basis of many styles of music. Without the blues, neither soul nor rock’n’roll would have existed.”
