Session held in Barcelona on: 14/04/2021

Nerea Guerrero

Barcelona, 1991

Sax

Puro Vizio · Mancuso · Big Band De L’Escola De Blues · The Red & the Rotten

She is one of the youngest members of Barcelona’s blues scene, which she reached after passing through the Municipal Music School of Sant Andreu, where Joan Chamorro showed her the way, and the Escola de Blues de Barcelona, where she began to cut her teeth on African-American roots music, after a first experience on stage with a close relative: ska. With eclectic references that range from Janis Joplin to Nick Curran, by way of Amy Winehouse, The Black Keys or Joy Division, her strong stage personality and the vibrant energy of her sax make her one of the firmest promises to have appeared on the blues scene at the beginning of the twenty-first century. On stage she seeks to enjoy the show, interacting with the audience. Her intelligent gaze becomes even more incisive when she explains the cause of her connection with the blues: “Like all music, it allows you to express yourself, but in my case it offers me a language in which I feel more comfortable communicating. And thanks to the teachers and professionals who have surrounded me, I have learned to appreciate and love the genre, its swing, the groove, the way of ‘walking’ and its history.”
