Pepino Pascual
Clarinet · Guitar · Percussion
The first instrument he played was a guitar, with which he made the first rock and folk songs sound “and all the music of the ‘revolution’” that was steeped in blues, according to his own definition. But it was the clarinet, an instrument he bought at seventeen, that first took him onto the stage and into music as a professional. By the age of eighteen he was already living from music, playing a bit of everything, from rock to salsa, passing through traditional music, blues, classical or jazz. He spent fifteen years with La Vella Dixieland, and his has been a habitual presence in the horn sections of artists such as Lluís Coloma and “a heap of bands with lives more or less short but always intense”. Besides the direct connection with the audience and the interaction with musician friends, he shows himself seduced by the essential ingredients of the blues: “The energy, the lament, the freedom, the memory of having discovered part of life with this sound in the background, the many different branches and the essence that makes it always blues”.
