At fifteen, Quim heard the first bars of blues on the record player of his sister Espe, to whom they had given Eric Clapton’s Just One Night, and he was for ever captivated by the version of “Double Trouble” by Otis Rush. Spurred on by the attraction of the devil’s music, he put together his first band, Riders, at the age of eighteen. Forty years and more than a dozen bands later, he is still treading the boards with the same enthusiasm, the same love of music and the same enthusiastic smile that characterises him. He was part of the group of young enthusiasts who began to frequent La Cova del Drac and La Boîte in the founding years of Barcelona blues, and his passion led him to name his daughter with the word that defines his passionate way of playing: Alma. Clapton and B.B. King opened the doors for him to set out on an adventure that has become his work and his life, hand in hand with good friends and eternal companions, always, in his words, sharing a deep feeling: “You can’t play the blues without feeling it. It is pure gut. An emotional thermometer.”
