Samuel Marthe

Tourcoing (France), 1985

Trombone

Samuel Marthe Trio · Los Mambo Jambo Arkestra · Django Orchestra · Domino Swing Septet · Swing Shot

His early vocation led him into the world of music at the age of five, and at eight he began playing the trombone, an instrument that has brought him several awards in his native country. In 2003 he graduated from the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, and for ten years he devoted himself to playing with various bands and to teaching music. He began by playing jazz above all, and in Barcelona he also became part of the blues scene, although he has collaborated with groups of every style, from ska to pop, by way of reggae, soul, latin and funk. An enthusiast of improvisation and of interaction between musicians, he affirms that sharing and transmitting the love and passion for music is the best thing the blues has given him, a genre in which what attracts him is, in his own words: “Its history, power and legacy”. Louis Armstrong, B.B. King and Wynton Marsalis are part of his musical Olympus, where fundamental figures of African-American music also dwell, such as Aretha Franklin, Billie Holiday, Michael Jackson or Tito Puente, in an evident demonstration of an eclectic culture and a broad musical outlook.
