Tori Sparks

Despite having been born in the city that projected the blues out to the world, Tori discovered the genre in a juke joint in Florida, when she was a young university student. For a few months she was the only white person and the only person under fifty in that venue, where she absorbed the essence of African-American music. She began singing at seventeen, recorded her first album at eighteen and at twenty-one decided to devote herself professionally to music. Since then she has played in twenty-four countries and recorded seven albums, a handful of singles and a couple of EPs. She even set up her own label, Glass Mountain Records, after a bad experience with a record company, in a clear display of this artist’s independence and strength of character. Always leading her own projects, collaborating with and learning from the great musicians who have accompanied her, in 2011 she settled in Barcelona, where she launched her fusion of rock, blues and flamenco, musics she considers siblings both in their origins and in the people who created them “fighting for their lives on the margins of society”. The power of her stage presence, her ironic tone and her versatile musical ability have made her a regular figure at numerous European festivals, which she combines with her work as a producer, lecturer and active supporter of charitable causes.
