This ingenious and multifaceted harmonica player fell in love with the blues at first puff, through a harmonica that he abandoned in adolescence and rediscovered at the age of twenty-five, when he was in the full throes of his infatuation with Black music. As a child he listened to rock bands such as the Rolling Stones, Deep Purple or Led Zeppelin, but it turned out that the songs he liked best by them, without knowing the blues, were the bluesiest. He first stepped onto a stage in earnest, if it can be put that way, in 1991, and he has built a career grounded in lyrics steeped in irony, humour and contagious wit and written in Spanish, something that gave a distinctive identity to the duo he kept for twenty years with Jose Bluefingers, turning them into regular fixtures at every festival in the country, and which he has carried on with his new partner, César Canut. His skill with the harmonica, his stage cheek and his musical adaptability have led him to achieve such things as making a jota sound entirely natural at a blues festival. A friend of having a thoroughly good time with his friends, he confesses that he relishes every moment the blues has given him, “because we bluesers, though we are a bit of a bunch of rogues, are also, on the whole, very good people”.
