La Cova del Drac

In this venue on carrer Tuset, where Barcelona’s cultural underground took refuge in the mid-sixties, some jam sessions began to be forged in the early eighties that figure in local history as the ferment of the blues scene. Under the impetus of Vicente Zúmel and his Harmònica Zúmel Blues Band, the nights at the Cova brought together a generation of musicians who had only just landed in the genre, such as Amadeu Casas, Big Mama Montse, Dani Nel·lo, August Tharrats, José María Merchan, Ricky Gil or Santi Ursul, among others, who led the first period of expansion of the blues in the city. The original venue closed its doors in 1991, when the winds of modernity put an end to pre-Olympic Barcelona. Years later it reopened on carrer Vallmajor under the name Cova del Drac Jazzroom, but the glory days had gone for ever.
