Pipa Club

At number 3 Plaça Reial, in the very heart of the city, a very special venue opened its doors in 1982: the Barcelona Pipa Club, a private establishment with an air of clandestinity, located on the first floor, which was reached by ringing the entryphone. During the 1990s it languished, until a new team opened its doors to live music and the blues crept in. In 2015, when the jams had become a regular activity and tourists and local enthusiasts filled the venue, the old rent contract expired and the club had to emigrate to number 21 of Carrer de Santa Eulàlia, in the Gràcia neighbourhood, where, under the baton of Heidi Martínez, the Pipa recovered all its splendour, becoming for more than five years the epicentre of blues, jazz and manouche in the city. In 2021 the board of the establishment decided to suspend live music activity, and the city was left without another refuge for night-owl bluesers.
